How I got started in photography. I did not attend the new England school of photography. I received a digital camera for Christmas in 2004. From there I upgraded to a Kyocera camera with a nice zoom. Then, somebody told me I should purchase a Canon DSLR so I worked for a Summer at a technology camp in Amherst, Ma on Amherst College called Cyber Camps. I then used that $1000 to purchase a Canon Digital Rebel in 2006 and started my wedding photography business. From there I photographed both of my sisters wedding and designed a website for couples to see those photos. My first year was 2007 and I photographed 8 weddings. I don't think you need to go to photography school to become a wedding photographer. Schools like Hallmark Institute of Photography and New England School of Photography will charge you 30k for 10 months of training and then after that, you're on your own. They won't teach you how to market yourself or to land your first photography gig. There are plenty of photographers on YouTube who you can learn from. I will even teach you how to photograph weddings or how to become a photographer if you'd like to hire me to teach you. I have been contacted many times by people who have attended these schools to come and shadow me at weddings. Weddings can get rather hectic so I'd rather just teach you how I approach every wedding.
