People often ask me how long do weddings last. Every wedding is different but on average a typical wedding last 8 hours. I tend to photograph weddings that are anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. The ceremony tends to last 15 minutes to an hour for a full mass in a Catholic church. I tend to show up to a wedding about an hour to two hours before the ceremony to capture detail images of the shoes, dress, rings and the bride and groom hanging out with their wedding party. After the ceremony there is typically a cocktail hour with drinks and appetizers. During this time I'm usually capturing formal images of the wedding party and family and friends. From there, the reception tends to last 2-4 hours. So I guess my answer for how long do weddings last is anywhere from 4-8 hours. I once photographed a New Years eve wedding that was 12 hours long. It ran from 12 noon to 12 midnight. Plan on staying at a wedding for at least 4 hours. People tend to head out of weddings around 8 or 9pm depending on how much partying they can handle. Sometimes the day weddings are shorter and more around the 4 hour mark. I have photographed weddings in the day and they only hired me fore a couple hours but I was still able to capture amazing photos during this time. Weddings are a blast and if you get invited to them, no need to worry because they are usually on Saturday so you won't have to miss any football games.
